MOST RECENT PROJECT
This project is located in Alabama. I was invited by a fellow artisan to carve the rock below. The retaining walls were done in shotcrete and already completed when I arrived. Their purpose is to prevent erosion and as a water feature. There are 2 phases to this project. The photos here are of phase 1. Phase 2 is scheduled for completion the end of summer 2012.
The first step was to add shape to the existing walls (bottom walls). As you can see, the walls had very little shape when we arrived (top walls).
Once we have the desired shape, a texture coat is shot on and the rock carvers go to work. That's me, adding shape and texture before I finishing carving.
Now it needs some color!
Here is another section of the rock carved. I'm doing some patchwork as you can see below.
This area is going to hold a pool of water that will cascade over into the pool below.
That's me carving the patchwork.
Next we add color. The colors are chosen to match the existing real rock.
